Ferries are so pricey! 4 trips on the eurotunnel return for the price of 1 ferry return. Wild. Do people actually just sleep in the chairs?

On the 8th April I booked 4th June Portsmouth - Bilbao on the Galicia, returning 13th June Bilbao - Portsmouth on the Santona, inside cabin, one person, one motorbike, for £751. It'll be interesting to see the varying prices charged. At that price it was about equal to driving down and back via the channel tunnel, using the peage, peage fuel prices and accommodation. I managed to dodge the poor weather (not booking any accommodation in advance) by staying in Pamplona first and then staying in Potes. The only rain I experienced was on the way down to Portsmouth and on the way back from Portsmouth!!!

Been looking forward to this, can’t wait for the trip to begin proper, have often considered taking the fancy lounge access option, but have never done it, hope you enjoyed. We also do love a Parador, I’m guessing that’s Sos Del Rey coming up, can’t wait, that’s a lovely one and a great place to walk around too.

We did that trip last year with the commodore lounge. I thought it was very civilised even tho pricey! Happy 60th Richard!!🎉 Mine is next month. Are you two at Prescott Hill bike fest tomorrow?

You can't beat the three-course buffet style meal for 20 Euros. Big portions and good value. Thanks for showing us the way you two do it.

Being a Tour de France fan the weather has always put me off, as I see you've touched on in some of the comments. I found the weather can be a problem if you 'have' to move everyday for accommodation reasons. (I did the same when I went to Santiago de Compostella in 2019) (FIO Pont Aven wanted just short of £1000 return for the second week in July for one with a motorcycle and a basic cabin)

Did you consider going straight down the M5 to Plymouth? Much shorter crossing of 20 hours. I believe ferry from Portsmouth is 2 nights onboard?

Great introduction to your special 60th milestone trip and informative ferry details. Certainly quite expensive, but when you consider the country, culture and scenery you're being transported to, it eases the pain a bit. The tips on packing and experiencing the time on the Ferry will be very usefull to riders wanting to do a trip for the 1st time . i would sooner pay like you have for the nice cabin and access to the other parts that you showed . years ago with no experience and no one to show us we had a trip to Belgium with a bike club we were in . not a well planned trip . happy birthday Richard and will enjoy your next videos .

Nice place to start a ride. I went to school in Ashbourne, lived in that area for over 50 years! Used to tear up the roads on my Z1R in the 80’s and my 675 Daytona later on. I ride alone normally and used to commute to work in Derby on the bike.

Heavens to Mergatroid Banditman, those ferry prices are enough to make a Scotsman hang up his kilt. £400 to sleep on a bench for the night and another £200 plus just to have access to the bar 😨 Still it was a birthday treat and I hope it proves memorable for yourself and Carol, I look forwards to seeing the rest of the trip 👍😊

You got quite "tired and emotional" at the end of the first day 😂🍻 I just wish Carol would slow ride with both feet on the pegs and using the rear brake but good work with the filtering. Those bikers boarding: growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional 😂😂

Ahhh, good stuff, been looking forward to these. Good to see what you pack and how. We took the overnight ferry to France from Portsmouth, bit of a pain waiting to board back then as there was nowhere to get a hot drink or anything, hopefully that's changed. I see Carol kept those hips moving on the way over. Sounds expensive but it's a long sailing and I think you need a decent cabin to make it a bit more bearable. Look forward to the next one.

Totally agree! Loose Chippings are lethal, and pointless too. I have seen pot holes covered with them. The tar that they spray onto the road comes through soon after. They should fix the roads properly.

I'm pretty excited about this and upcoming vid on this trip. I’ve never travled on a fairy like this one and the details are quite interesting to me. I'm trying to watch my diet but the breakfast and bar was tempting me.😄 The shot from the back of the ship was beautiful. Congratulations on #60 ....still just a kid.

i cannot wait until i can do tours like this regularly. Carol is a boss, i love seeing another couple enjoying bikes together. Also, i am supremely jealous of the clarity of your audio, i have had major issues trying to come up with a system to record the comms for me and Alison. Top video, very inspiring.

After seeing I think it was your 2 year review I made my mind up bite the bullet and make the jump from my r1 (2009 x plane) to the 10 ... always had r1s since 2004 it was a big leap, I'm now 2 years in and it was the best move I ever made

I remember the first time in my riding career I encountered surface dressing, late 70s ish. Shropshire County Council as it was then had used the biggest chippings thst the crusher could crush, needless to say, they didn't stick to the bitumen too well. This practice should've been outlawed years ago, may as well chuck marbles on the road.

Great audio Richard and picture, I use a Action 3 on the bars (no external mic) and 4 on the helmet paired with the mic 2, brilliant kit👍 PS. I have the Insta 360 2 too for unusual shots, don’t ask me about my camera collection and don’t tell my lovely wife.😉😜

It's incredible in this day and age that this mess on the roads is allowed to go on. Surely someone is innovating around this problem.

The way they "resurface" or roads now is disgusting, and is probably false economy. It certainly doesn't last long that's for sure. I think your audio there was pretty bang on,maybe just drop it a dB or two.

Watch out for narrow gaps,the back,of the bike, should NEVER be wider,than the front,of the bike,or you might be like me,had to have my pelvis removed,rebuilt n'so on,a total,terrible thing,that you do NOT want ; Yamaha should make a MT10 Tracer,renamed The Hooligan,ha ha i'm on super scooters now,pretty good,be careful out there

hi Richard , i hate the tar sprayed roads with chippings . your sound has always seemed good to me .

Unfortunately bikers aren't considered when it comes to road maintenance, road layout, and VED. We are a minority group that doesn't matter. £117 a year, a 2013 diesel Honda Civic we used to own was zero ved!

the drains get blocked with all that gravel as well Richard. Good idea to get shared audio I totally get it .. I just thought a waterproof alternative might be if carol links to one camera via bluetooth and you link to the other then sync them up in the edit as those mic's aren't waterproof just a thought if its tipping down 😎😎

I had a rant about loose chipping all over Derbyshire roads a few weeks ago. Absolute disgrace.

It's just scary how bad things are getting Richard I am starting to think that they have no interest in how bad the roads get as it all aids the bigger plan to put people off driving either that or they get massive back handers from windscreen and shock absorber companies for the business that's going their way .As for the audio I thought it was not quite as good as it normally is to me just that little bit sort of fuzzier somehow but only slightly .👌👍take it steady on those chippings😉
